Age Group Leaders (AGL)

Age Group Leaders (AGL)

Prerequisites:

Age Group Leaders (AGLs) are the heart and soul of the Runner’s Camp experience. AGLs work with one specific age and gender during the whole week. AGLs will teach the provided curriculum to the kids during the morning and lead and manage their assigned group through each day’s rotation. Age group leaders (AGLs) may request which group they would like to work with (some do and some don’t want to work with their own child’s groups).

  1. Must have a personal relationship with Christ, and a desire to mentor children between the ages of 6 and 12. No track experience is necessary.
  2. Must submit to a background check.
  3. Must want to love and serve the campers.
  4. Attend the pre-camp training session.

Time commitment: Two hours of training before camp. Five hours of teaching and managing kids each day during the camp.

Youth

Youth Volunteers

The Youth Volunteers are recruited and managed by the Youth Volunteer Coordinator. We have had a coordinator since the first year. These youth do a number of assorted jobs.

Prerequisites:

  1. Complete this Youth Volunteer Registration form
  2. All youth volunteers MUST submit a name and contact email address for an adult recommendation.  These recommendations cannot be provided by a parent, sibling, or peer.  Failure to provide proper contact information and a recommendation will prevent youth volunteers from serving at the Runner’s Camp.
  3. Attend the mandatory training session before the camp you are serving.
  4. Willingness to serve the kids and staff.

Time commitment: Youth volunteers MUST attend one of the training sessions prior to the start of camp. Youth Volunteers work five hours each day of camp.

Positions include:

Helper for the Age Group Leader– Youth will be assigned to a specific age group and assist the adult age group leader with their specific age group throughout the course of the week.

•Camper Buddies – Camper buddies are assigned to serve with specific special needs campers at the Runner’s Camp each day of camp.  Buddies help campers have a meaningful camp experience.  Camper Buddy pre-camp training is required.

•Game Station management-  Some youth are assigned to manage the game stations.

• Assistant Event Coaching –  Assisting in teaching introductory skills to campers at one of the track and field event stations (shot put, javelin, discus, hurdling, high jump, long jump, sprinting, and distance running).

•Hydration Team – Provide water to the hydration stations throughout the campsite.

Station set up and tear down– All youth volunteers are asked to help out in the setting up and dismantling of each day’s camp.

Carpool Drop off and Pick up oversight – Youth volunteers play a vital role in helping get campers from cars to camp and from camp to cars, at the beginning and end of each day of camp. ALL volunteers will be expected to assist with carpool each day of camp.

Coaches

Coaches

The Runner’s Camp coaches are men and women with track and field experience and knowledge who can teach and demonstrate one of the eight track and field events taught to campers at the Runner’s Camp. Those events are: distance running, sprinting, hurdling, shot put, discus, javelin, long jump, and high jump.  Coaches are recruited and selected by the camp director.

Prerequisites: Coaches must have expertise and experience in some area of track and field.

Time commitment: Two hours of orientation before camp. Three hours of teaching and instruction each day during the camp.

Mini Camp and Childcare

Mini Camp and Childcare for the Age Group Leader pre-camp aged children.

This year we will have three age groups.

  • 0-2 years olds  – basic childcare, feeding snacks, playground with the older ones (this class may be divided depending on number and ages)
  • 2-3 year olds – many activities planned, including crafts, stories, and outside play
  • 4-5 year olds – full VBS type experience and Track & Field activities just like the big kids

These are the jobs needed for each age group.

Drop-Off Workers (2) – help with sign-up and get kids settled, (7-8:30)  Easy way to volunteer before work.

Teachers (1 per class) – Help develop the activities and schedules and implement it during the week.    Most of it is already planned.  We just have to fill in the blanks with the specifics.

Class helpers (2-3 per class) ˆ Help the lead teacher implement the daily activities.

Youth helpers (2 per class) ˆ set-up, tear down outside activities, play with kids, help in general

Snack Prep (1) ˆ buy & prep the daily snack, nothing complicated

  2. Tear down crew- Same as above, but they arrive at 11:30 am to begin taking down the camp and storing away equipment.
  3. Videographer- Someone to shoot video of the kids and for promotional purposes.
  4. Photographer-  Pictures are taken to put on the website on a later day.
  5. Food Court Helpers – Aid with preparation and serving of snacks during the camp hours.
